Funky Cold Medina

Today we went on a morning visit to the Old Medina of Fes, which is basically a lot of houses/shops/other buildings in one place that create a massive labyrinth of a marketplace.

Our local guide for the day took us through the maze past a former Koran school, the oldest tannery in Morocco (dating back to about the 11th century), Mosques, a carpet making cooperative and a loom/weave/fabric making cooperative.

Along the way we saw many other shops selling everything under the sun. Laundry powder, fake watches, mint, spices, fish, shishas, wedding chairs, Fez hats, candy and jewellery just to name a few.

There was also the task of listening out for calls of "balak, balak!" and "attencion!" which effectively means "Get out of the way!" so that donkeys and men carrying heavy loads could get past.

It was good to finally get some sunshine on this trip, but I think it wiped us all out a bit as most of us spent the afternoon by the pool when we got back to the hotel.
